Rendered in graphite across every plane of light and shadow, this portrait was built stroke by stroke — cross-hatching pulled tight through the deepest darks, the pencil dragged and lifted to carve highlight from raw paper, each fold of fabric and strand of hair fought for in layers until the likeness stopped being a drawing and became a presence.
