From a Photograph, a Contemporary Masterwork

Your subject, immortalized by hand. Each commission is a unique, one-of-one original created in archival graphite, charcoal, or watercolor on museum-grade cotton paper. No digital reproductions. No AI. Only pure, professional craftsmanship.

HOW A COMMISSION WORKS

  • I. Send your photo

One strong photograph is enough — from your phone is fine. You'll receive honest guidance on which image will translate best.

  • II. A private conversation

Size, medium, framing, timeline — decided together in one call. Commissions begin at $2,800.

  • III. The work, by hand

Weeks of deliberate execution in archival graphite, charcoal or sepia. You approve a progress image along the way.

  • IV. Framed. Delivered. Yours alone

Matted and framed to museum standard, ready to hang — insured delivery worldwide, or pickup at the Houston studio.

Andros Karr Houston Artist

the studio in houston

Downtown Arts District

Every commission is created here, in the heart of Houston's Arts District — a working studio in the classical tradition. There is no printer in this room, and no algorithm. Only paper, pigment, and time.

For fifteen years — through public exhibitions, national art publications, the Albers Memorial Award, and repeated honors from the Watercolor Art Society–Houston — corporations, families, and private collectors have commissioned my work. When you commission a piece, you partner directly with me: every line, value, and detail executed under my own hand.

Studio visits are available by appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of photo do I need to provide? You don’t need a professional headshot. I look for clear lighting, good contrast, and a genuine expression. Once we begin our consultation, I’ll help you select the photograph that will translate most beautifully into graphite or watercolor.
How long does the commission process take? Because each piece is created by hand and requires deliberate execution, the timeline varies based on the medium and complexity. We will define a clear completion date during our initial creative alignment call.
Will I see the piece before it is finished? Yes. Collaboration is part of the process. I share progress updates as the piece takes shape, ensuring the interpretation is aligned with your vision every step of the way.
Is the artwork ready to hang upon arrival? Absolutely. Every commissioned piece is matted and framed to museum standards. It arrives at your door—or ready for pickup at my Houston studio—secure, insured, and gallery-ready.
